No matter how many actions have been taken against it, the festival is still happening. If you are unaware of the festival, thousands of cats and dogs are killed and eaten. In 2016, around 10,000 dogs and cats were murdered during the festival, which takes place in Guangxi Zhuang, an autonomous region in China's South-East.

However, those who protest against the festival claim that dogs are captured in cages with other animals and are either bludgeoned to death or skinned alive in public. Then they are turned into meat and sold on the streets. Many have reported that they've seen caged dogs or cats wearing collars, which suggests that they might be stolen pets.

As Daily Petition reports, "every year, more than 10, 000 dogs are brought from all over China to Yulin, especially for this festival – most of them stray animals or stolen pets. A lot of dogs die during the exhausting journey since they are crammed in trucks, almost unable to breathe. Additionally, they are left unfed and thirsty for days and frequently end up their limbs broken.

Dogs that survive the journey are even unluckier; they're crammed in cages and, then, put on display in public markets on the streets, so that customers can choose the dog they want to eat by ensuring the freshness and quality of the meat. Then, the poor animals are either roasted or boiled alive.

Even though the local government has promised more than once to do something against this cruel event, nothing has been done. Still, it is highly urgent for the governments and people to take action as soon as possible or else more dogs will be tortured and killed in June. Over the past several years, many activists have been in those festivals to buy and save as many dogs as possible.

Unluckily, an intervention from the authorities is more than needed, since activists could never save all these dogs on their own.
